“一花一世界”
Xuesheng Ma performed experiments in color darkrooms by using the glass specimens of wildflowers. She placed the flower specimens on the enlarger, and processed them on photosensitive paper. The resulting images explode in front of the eyes.
“One Flower, One World (一花一世界)” is inspired by a Zen Buddhist phrase that suggests the entire universe can be seen within a single flower. This series features wildflowers—gathered, preserved as specimens, and photographed using traditional darkroom techniques. Through the play of light and shadow, these delicate blooms are enlarged to near abstraction, their details unfolding like miniature cosmoses.
